Introduction

Arcane-FX (AFX) is an advanced special effects add-on for the Torque Game Engine (TGE), the Torque Game Engine Advanced (TGEA), and Torque 3D (T3D). With AFX, you can create high quality, professional special effects for your Torque projects. Effects that could previously only be achieved with large amounts of custom C++ programming can now be authored more quickly and easily in TorqueScript.

Central to AFX is the AFX: CoreTech framework, a specialized engine and animation system for creating and executing layered special effects using existing Torque effects as well as custom effects exclusive to AFX. As a generalized effects system, AFX allows many different types of special effects to be combined and choreographed within a single framework. Explosions, particle emitters, sound effects, animated models, lights, script events, damage and healing, terrain decals, and more, are all positioned, moved, and synchronized using a common mechanism.

This document, the User Guide, provides a concept-oriented description of AFX. It provides an overview covering all areas of the system and also presents a number of key concepts crucial to understanding and mastering AFX. For information about ready-made special effects content and the executable AFX Demo, refer to the Spell and Demo Guide. For detailed descriptions of AFX objects, functions, and parameters, refer to the Reference Guide.
